Dr. Hilmi Ozcelik (PhD) is a Staff Scientist at the Samuel
Lunenfeld Research Institute, Mount Sinai Hospital and an
Associate Professor at the Department of Laboratory Medicine
and Pathobiology of University of Toronto. He received his
PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Bogazici
University, Turkey in 1991. His research laboratory has a
long-term expertise in genetic predisposition to cancer
focusing mainly on breast and prostate cancers. His goal is
to develop innovative, multi-disciplinary strategies to
identify novel genetic factors in cancer predisposition and
treatment. Dr Ozcelik’s research program aims to identify
novel genetic factors and diagnostic tests. His research has
moved into the area of individualized medicine (Pharmacogenomics),
where they study genetic profiles of cancer patients to
understand the toxicity and response associated with
radiotherapy and chemotherapy of cancer patients. His team
foster synergetic collaborations in medical, scientific and
industrial communities bridging multi-disciplinary knowledge
to understand the genetic and functional architecture of
